Announcements New Exceptional Children DirectorGlenda Starr is taking the leadership of Director of Exceptional Children for McDowell County Schools. She has been in education for 29 years. When she attended West Junior High School in the 1970's she decided she wanted to be a Special Education teacher. She was intrigued by teaching and especially children with disabilities. This dedication is displayed everyday to her coworkers and to the many, many children's lives she has touched over the years. We welcome Glenda to this leadership position and wish her well.
![]() Dr. Aldridge RetiresAfter leading the Exceptional Children's Department in McDowell County for 18 years, Dr. Chuck Aldridge retires and hits the Appalachian Trail. He began his 2,157 miles on the Appalachian Trail on March 18, 2011. All of the teachers and staff in the Exceptional Children Department wish him a safe journey. We also thank him for his years of dedication to the children of our community!
North Carolina Teacher of ExcellenceMcDowell County Schools is proud to recognize Kendra Condrey as our Exceptional Children Teacher of Excellence. Mrs. Condrey has spent fourteen years serving children in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade as a speech pathologist in the exceptional children’s program. Kendra’s professionalism, dedication to quality instruction, knowledge of student needs, and the ability to effectively communicate with children, peers and parents are keys to her success as a teacher. Congratulations Kendra!
